METEOR

Terms

METEOR is a website and a memecoin, $METEOR. It is entertainment built on public scientific records. Read this before you use it.

What METEOR is

METEOR maps a Solana address to one row of NASA's Meteorite Landings dataset, the Meteoritical Society's catalogue of known meteorites, and shows that meteorite's record: its name, class, mass, the year it fell or was found, and where. The mapping is deterministic, documented on the site and in the public API, and anyone can repeat it.

What it is not

It is not a meteorite sale. Nobody owns, buys or sells a meteorite, a fragment, a find site or any rights in one through METEOR. A saved meteorite and its card are records and pictures, not property in anything physical. Cards that mint as NFTs at launch are images of a public record with a line the holder wrote; the stone on the card is drawn from its class, not photographed.

It is not investment advice, and $METEOR is not an investment product. Memecoins are volatile and can lose all their value. Only use money you can afford to lose.

It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Meteoritical Society, the Lunar and Planetary Institute, the Wikimedia Foundation, Natural Earth or any museum, university or collection.

The data

Meteorite records come from NASA's Meteorite Landings dataset (data.nasa.gov), compiled from the Meteoritical Society's Meteoritical Bulletin, pinned as published and checked by SHA-256. Fireballs come from NASA/JPL's CNEOS Fireball Data API. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons, only under CC0, public domain or CC BY, credited on each. Countries, seas and coastlines come from Natural Earth (public domain). Records can contain mistakes; METEOR shows them as they are and says when a field looks wrong.

Your wallet

Signing in signs a plain text message, never a transaction. METEOR never asks for your seed phrase or private key and never moves funds. "Use my wallet" only reads your public address.

Your line

The line you write on your card is yours and public once you save it. Don't write anything unlawful, hateful or personal about someone else. We may remove text that is.

No warranty

METEOR is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. The services it reads can be slow or down. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or the coin.
